I have already done 2 tasks of the week and posted my input on Nicenet: the Learning Objective using ABCD format and the Project tasks which consists on describing my students and my class setting for one of my courses and discussing the technology we access at university and outside.
I am in the process of checking the different search engines posted on NoodleTools by Sheri to be able to comment on at least one of them (beside Google) identifying the ones which work best for academic searches and for information I and my students can use in the English Language courses.
There are around 100 different search sites listed. Few I knew about and used before, but many I am not familiar with. I am very grateful for Sheri for compiling such a nice list and giving us the opportunity to try them. It is quite exhausting to check them one by one and try them to compare their results and use. I think I will just be selective for this week and try the rest as I go along with this course. I will also benefit from my colleagues’ comments and feedback on those search sites to help me focus my priorities accordingly.
There is still a long way to go with this exercise before I feel ready to post my feedback on Nicenet.
If anyone here can help me speeding the process of this exercise, I am open to your suggestions and thank you in advance.
you are perfectly alright in saying that there is still a long way to GO

DeleteHi Hassan
DeleteYou also seem to have been busy all the week with the given assignments . I have traced your posts on Nicenet and I think you have done a great job. I agree with when you said it not easy to check all the suggested search engines but I think the task becomes intersting when you come to encouraging results. let's pluck up courage and go ahead :-)

Thank you Sidi for your encouraging words.
DeleteI sure need it with this assignment.

'What a pain' is what I felt as well when testing the search engines provided to complete one of the task for this week. This shows that the www doesn't have any boundaries as information is everywhere. With the usage of different search engines you are likely to find a new information somewhere online.
ReplyDeleteThanks to Sherie and Jodi for giving us the platform to explore.
Indeed there's still a lot of things we need to learn regarding the Internet world.

DeleteDear Nur,
This is what I found on www using the search engine!
My conclusion is and you can quote me:
"You cannot use a search engine without learning something."
Hassan, Lebanon
That's so true!
DeleteI'll definitely quote you with something like this.
"You cannot use a search engine without learning something" (Hassan, 2012).
hehee :)
Hi Hassan,
ReplyDeleteWhy do you seem upset towards the end of your comment? I feel that you're saying so because you gave much of your time to the course as it's clear on Nicenet. By the way, your discussions were amazing! See, this reminds me of a famous quote that says" When work and skill come together, expect a masterpiece."
Excuse me, Hassan, I have no idea of any devise that could make time move faster except the above inspiring words!
Have a nice time,
Nihmat, Lebanon
Thank you Nihmat for your inspiring words!
DeleteI don't know how I sounded upset in my comment; it was not meant to be and definitely not for the reason you mentioned above. I am happily giving my time to this course and enjoying the experience in process. Maybe the confusion and the frustration of feeling trapped in the maze of search engines gave me away!
Now, I am definitely in a better position. I got through it sound and safe as witnessed in my posts on Nicenet.
I am welcoming the stress of this course with open heart and full readiness. It the good type of stress that puts me in an alert and creative mode.
Finally, your comment made me think of the statement by Loretta Girzartis: "If someone listens, or stretches out a hand, or whispers a kind word of encouragement, or attempts to understand, extraordinary things begin to happen."
So thank you again Nihmat. Thank you my friends.

Hi Hassan,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and your honesty that goes into it. "What a pain" made me laugh. We all understand those words in the maze of information in this tech world. With tight schedules and high expectations, it can be frustrating to explore the web to find just the right information. Sometimes we yearn for a simpler world. But since IT is here to stay, I'm glad for the suggestions of you explorers.
Sherie
Hello Hassan,
ReplyDeleteI feel that your words are great but you put the sense of sadness there! I think that this course gives a lot, yest it is hectic but it is great! Your wisdom is still there in the style of writing! I very much like your blog!!
